GOSPEL CLARITY

At Memorial Heights our goal is to be true to the gospel in all we teach and
do. It is an understatement to say that in many modern churches the
gospel is cheapened and misunderstood. Nothing is more precious than
the gospel, and we must get it right. We will not rightly understand the
gospel by simply clinging to church tradition or appealing to human
wisdom. We must appeal to the one source that reveals the truth about
ourselves and the one true God, and how we can know this God. The
source of infallible truth is the Bible, God’s Holy Word.

Over the course of the next few weeks I will write a series of brief blogs
explaining from the Scriptures the saving gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
For starters let’s say this. The gospel concerns the person and work of
Jesus Christ. Who He is and what He has done.

In I Corinthians 15:1 the Apostle Paul writes the following. “Moreover,
brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also
you received and in which you stand.” In verses three and four he further
comments on the gospel in the following way; “For I delivered to you first of
all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the
Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day
according to the Scriptures.” He did this for our salvation. That we might
have forgiveness of sin and be reconciled to God.

Take note that Paul says that what he is writing is “according to the
Scriptures.” Not the invention of men or human tradition. But the very
word of the living God. We need not look any further. Open your bible and
read!
